Isolation transformer 1-phase
An isolation transformer is used when you need galvanic separation between the primary and secondary sides.
Common uses
- Machine control
- Equipment cabinet
- Industrial installations
TECHNICAL DATA
- Primary voltage up to 1100 VAC
- Secondary voltage ≥ 50 VAC
- Frequency 50 / 60 Hz
- Temperature class B
- Connection via terminal block
Enclosure classes
- IP00-IP54
Common turnovers
- 500 / 400 V
- 400 / 230 V
- 230 / 2×115 V
- 230 / V 24
Protective isolation transformer
A protective isolation transformer is used when you need personal safety low voltage on the secondary side. The secondary voltage is ≤ 50 VAC and is often used in control systems and safety applications.Common uses
- Control system
- Machine safety
- Service equipment
TECHNICAL DATA
- Primary voltage up to 1100 VAC
- Secondary voltage ≤ 50 VAC
- Frequency 50 / 60 Hz
- Temperature class B
- Connection via terminal block
Common turnovers
- 400 / 24 V
- 230 / 24 V
- 230 / 12 V
Autotransformer, eco-switched transformer
An autotransformer, also called a tap-coupled transformer, uses a common winding for both the primary and secondary sides. Unlike a traditional isolation transformer, a large part of the power is therefore transferred directly from the supply network, while the transformer only needs to convert the voltage difference between input and output.
This means that the autotransformer can be dimensioned significantly smaller than a corresponding isolation transformer, especially when converting between nearby voltage levels such as 400–500 V or 400–690 V. The result is a compact and cost-effective solution with high efficiency, low weight and low losses.
Benefits
- Compact design
- Lower weight
- High efficiency
- Lower losses
- Lower cost
- Particularly effective at small voltage differences
Common uses
- Adaptation between 400 V / 500 V / 690 V networks
- Industrial power systems
- Machinery and production equipment
- Motor starters and drive systems
- Pump, fan and compressor systems
- UPS and backup power systems
- Shore power and marine installations
Compatible systems
- Three-phase system 50/60 Hz
- Single-phase system
- TN-S / TN-C system
- IT systems depending on application
- Systems where galvanic isolation is not required
Since the primary and secondary sides are electrically connected, no galvanic isolation is achieved between the networks. Autotransformers are therefore mainly used in applications where a common reference and ground are acceptable.
